Behind the Scenes with Incalculable Many

 One of my favorite Tumblrs to follow in Incalculable Many , otherwise known as Opening the Shapely Detail . She's got some beautiful photos and also some original artwork featuring well-drawn stick figures in different scenes and poses. A lot of the time she mashes up compositions with stock photography and original figures. Here is one selection from the Tumblr, called Hiker in the Mountains .   Another is called Man Sitting in a Field   OK, Incalculable Many doesn't get any points for creativity or originality in her titles. But the drawings are cute and fun and often animated. I asked her to share some details on her process. Here is what she shared with me: I use Procreate on my iPad Pro for all my drawing. I prefer to create my backgrounds as original paintings with a variety of custom brushes for Procreate. Sketching and Drawing

I like to sketch. I like to paint. Recently I tried to teach myself how to draw and paint anime and had mixed results. I'm not great. Not totally bad, but not great. I should stick to poetry. Have you read my poem about cheeseburgers ? No? How about the one I wrote about drawing ? I have even dabbled in Haiku . Seriously, read my poems. If you do, I'll call you my best friend . well, if you want some more tips on drawing anime, I thought this video was a good tutorial on drawing an anime girl. At least an anime girl's face.

Cheeseburger - A Poem

Cheeseburger I cannot help but stop and look at the style meatloaf. Does the meatloaf make you queasy? does it? The introduce that's really hearty, Above all others is the sandwich. A sandwich is lusty. a sandwich is red-blooded, a sandwich is substantial, however. Burrito is breakfast intake. breakfast intake is burrito. Are you upset by how hirsute it is? Does it tear you apart to see the burrito so succulent?   This poem raises several important questions of the day. McDonalds or Burger King ? Cheeseburger or Burrito? For me, it's simple. Always go with McDonalds when given the choice and nothing beats a cheeseburger.

Drawing - A Poem

Drawing I saw the the original depict of my generation destroyed, How I mourned the sketch. Down, down, down into the darkness of the sketch, Gently it goes - the free, the simple, the unoriginal. How happy is the crude draftsmanship! Does the draftsmanship make you shiver? does it? A print, however hard it tries, Will always be burdensome. Never forget the hairy and heavy-minded print.

Quick Sketches and Effects

I made this very simple cartoon sketch today. Just some dude. I made the sketch in Procreate on an iPad Pro and an Apple Pencil. I really enjoy this combination for quick sketching. Then I thought I would mess around with special effects using Topaz Studio and its AI Remix filter. This filter uses Artificial Intelligence to mimic famous painting styles. What do you think of the results?   This is with the Waves of Stone filter in Topaz AI Remix This one uses the Yellow Brick Road filter in Topaz AI Remix And finally, this is with the Crinkled Portrait filter. I will post a few more sketches soon.Here is a video that shows the effects.
